Abu Ghusun (Hamada Wreck)

Near the village of Abu Ghusun, south of Marsa Alam, lies the Hamada — a cargo ship that sank in 1993 and now rests on a sandy seabed just off the shore in only 5 to 18 metres of water. Its shallow depth makes it one of the very few wrecks accessible to beginner divers and even snorkelers. Decades underwater have turned it into a thriving artificial reef, encrusted with hard and soft corals and wrapped in glassfish and colourful reef species — a fascinating, easy blend of history, marine life and photography.
