Hurghada Wreck & Reef Diving Day
About This Trip
One dive on a Red Sea wreck paired with a classic reef dive, guided by a local dive guide who knows every swim-through. A great way to mix history with marine life in a single day out of Hurghada — recommended for divers who already have a few dives under their belt.
More About This Trip
Hurghada hides real history under its surface, and this day trip takes you to it. The star of the area is a genuine warship: an Egyptian minesweeper sunk during an air attack in 1970, now resting on her port side just outside the harbour at 25-32 metres, with the top of the wreck around 17 metres. The blast hole that sank her is still clearly visible, the hull is peppered with machine-gun fire, and the propeller, rudder and anchor remain in place. You can peer into the bridge and radio room through portholes and hatches — penetration is not part of the standard dive, and because live-era ammunition still lies around the site, the golden rule is to look and never touch.
The wreck dive is paired with a second dive on one of the area's healthiest reefs, so the day balances rust and history with soft corals and clouds of reef fish. Depending on conditions, the wreck portion may instead visit the remains of sunken safari boats and supply vessels that rest on shallower reefs nearby.
Because of the depth and the occasional current around the wreck, this trip is recommended for divers with some experience beyond entry level — an advanced certification or a deep adventure dive in your logbook is ideal. Your guide briefs the history of each wreck before you descend, which turns the dive from a swim around old metal into something closer to time travel. Lunch and soft drinks on board, hotel pickup and drop-off within Hurghada, and full equipment rental are available as with all daily trips.
