A scattered group of reefs south of Marsa Alam — coral gardens, swim-throughs and caves, generally calmer and shallower than the offshore pinnacles further out, which makes it a comfortable stretch on a longer route rather than the single headline dive of a trip.
Daedalus Reef
An isolated reef standing in open water with a lighthouse marking it from a considerable distance, well offshore and reachable only by liveaboard. Walls, strong current, and a genuine chance of oceanic whitetips and hammerheads in season — similar pelagic draw to Elphinstone, but further out and only accessible on a multi-day boat.
The Brothers (El Akhawein)

What does a route like this actually cost and take?
Liveaboard trips covering these routes typically run 5 to 10 days, diving three to four times daily and sleeping aboard between sites. Costs vary widely by boat standard and season, and are genuinely a different budget category from day-boat diving — expect a materially higher total than a week of day trips, reflecting the boat, crew and remote logistics involved.
Do you need to be an advanced diver for these routes?
Effectively yes. These are exposed, current-swept offshore sites, and liveaboard operators typically expect Advanced Open Water as a minimum, with genuine drift-diving comfort mattering more than the card. Building that comfort on sheltered day-boat dives first, rather than making an offshore liveaboard your first taste of current, is the honest advice regardless of which operator you eventually book with.
