Paradise Island is one of the most popular snorkeling stops in Hurghada: a small island beach in the Giftun marine park with white sand, turquoise shallows and a healthy coral reef only a short swim from the shore.

The water is clear, calm and shallow, so this is an easy first snorkel for children, beginners and anyone nervous about deep water, and a good place to relax on the sand between swims. Just off the beach you can float over coral gardens with parrotfish, butterflyfish and clownfish, and turtles are seen now and then. It is a snorkeling and beach stop rather than a dive site, and it is usually combined with a second reef on a full-day boat trip from Hurghada.

Trips leave from Hurghada marina and take roughly an hour by boat, with lunch on board on most day trips. As part of a national park, a marine park entrance fee applies on top of the trip, and the reef rules apply: no standing on or touching the coral, no feeding fish. Bring reef-safe sunscreen, a rash vest, a towel, sunglasses and a hat, and use a swim vest if you are not a confident swimmer.

Best time to dive here

Divable all year — the Red Sea has no closed season. Water runs from about 22°C in February to 30°C in August, and March–May and September–November give the most comfortable mix of warm water, light wind and good visibility.
