Best time to dive in Marsa Alam
There is no closed season on the Red Sea — every month below is divable. What changes is the water temperature and how busy the boats are.
| Season | Water | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| March – May | 24–27°C | Warm water, light wind, excellent visibility. The most comfortable diving of the year. |
| June – August | 28–30°C | The warmest water of the year, and the hottest days on deck. A thin shorty is enough. |
| September – November | 26–29°C | Still-warm water with the summer crowds gone — the other peak window alongside spring. |
| December – February | 22–24°C | The coolest water, and the quietest boats. Diving is excellent — bring a thicker wetsuit. |

Diving in Marsa Alam — common questions
How much does diving in Marsa Alam cost?
Prices start at €41 per person in Marsa Alam. A guided day of diving for certified divers starts at €63, and a PADI course starts at €59. Every price on this page is the final price per person — boat, guide, tanks and weights are already in it, and there is nothing to add at the marina.
Can I dive without a licence or any experience?
Yes. Discover Scuba Diving is made for people who have never dived: a short briefing in shallow water, then a real dive to a maximum of 12 metres with an instructor beside you the whole time. No licence and no prior experience are needed, and it counts towards the PADI Open Water course if you decide to carry on. The minimum age is 10.
When is the best time to dive in Marsa Alam?
All year round — the Red Sea has no closed season. Water runs from about 22°C in February to 30°C in August, and March–May and September–November bring the most comfortable mix of warm water, light wind and good visibility. Winter diving is excellent too; you simply want a thicker wetsuit.
Is hotel pickup included in Marsa Alam?
Yes — return transfer from your hotel is included on the trips and courses listed here, for hotels inside the Marsa Alam area. Pickup is early, usually between 06:00 and 09:00, and the exact time is confirmed the evening before. If your hotel sits well outside town, tell us before booking and we will confirm whether it is reachable.
What happens if I need to cancel?
Cancellation is free up to 48 hours before the trip starts, with a full refund. Inside 48 hours the booking is non-refundable, because the boat seat and the guide are already committed. If we cancel for weather or sea conditions, you are refunded in full or moved to another day, whichever you prefer.
